Research papers

For the last two classes, we have been presenting our research papers on all different HR topics. After writing the paper, the person gives about a 5 minute presentation in front of the rest of the class.

Unions

In class we talked about Unions. We discussed the positives and negatives of joining an Union. We talked about how most companies are against unions, and try to get employees not to join Unions if they can help it. Unions cost annual charges, and sometimes give benefits to their members. They also provide job security for their members.

Today we talked about safety in the workplace and how it relates to Human Resources. We talked about OSHA, and what their job entails. We took a short quiz to check on what we knew about safety in the workplace, and what OSHA was all about. We learned what caused stress in the workplace, and how managers could lower the stress in the employees.

Today we learned about different benefits, such as health care, which is the most important benefit in today's business world. Health Care is mandatory in the state of Massachusetts. We talked about the Cafeteria plan, which is a good benefit idea for a company, it's where the employer choses which benefit is more important to the individual employee, allowing the company to concentrate on that particular benefit.
